so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, ¹  they ²  will not awake nor arise from their sleep.

In the second year of his ¹  reign Nebuchadnezzar had many dreams. ²  His mind ³  was disturbed and he suffered from insomnia. ⁴ 

Many of those who sleep in the dusty ground will awake – some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence. ¹ 

Anyone who lies down in the house must wash his clothes. Anyone who eats in the house must wash his clothes.

he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they began making fun of him. ¹ 

Then the disciples replied, ¹  “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

So then we must not sleep as the rest, but must stay alert and sober.

I rested and slept; I awoke, ¹  for the Lord protects ²  me.

It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food. ¹  Yes, ²  he can provide for those whom he loves even when they sleep. ³ 

When I tried ¹  to gain ²  wisdom and to observe the activity ³  on earth – even though it prevents anyone from sleeping day or night ⁴  –

You must by all means ¹  return to him at sunset the item he gave you as security so that he may sleep in his outer garment and bless you for it; it will be considered a just ²  deed by the Lord your God.

So she made him go to sleep, wove the seven braids of his hair into the fabric on the loom, fastened it with the pin, and said to him, “The Philistines are here, ¹  Samson!” ²  He woke up ³  and tore away the pin of the loom and the fabric.

Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is approaching, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

He came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? ¹  Enough of that! ²  The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

The one who gathers crops ¹  in the summer is a wise ²  son, but the one who sleeps ³  during the harvest is a son who brings shame to himself. ⁴ 

I listened to his voice, ¹  and as I did so ²  I fell into a trance-like sleep with my face to the ground.

He goes to sleep and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

When he came again he found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. ¹  And they did not know what to tell him.

Now Peter and those with him were quite sleepy, ¹  but as they became fully awake, ²  they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

At the sound of your battle cry, ¹  O God of Jacob, both rider ²  and horse “fell asleep.” ³
