He drove the nations out from before them; he assigned them their tribal allotments ¹  and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down. ² 

All of them will come and make their home ¹  in the ravines between the cliffs, and in the crevices of the cliffs, in all the thorn bushes, and in all the watering holes. ² 

Then he went out from the country of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After his father died, God ¹  made him move ²  to this country where you now live.

But Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, ¹  in the land of Canaan. ² 

I myself will make the land desolate and your enemies who live in it will be appalled.

I will put him in permanent charge of my house and my kingdom; his dynasty will be permanent.”’” ¹ 

When the seventh month arrived and the Israelites ¹  were living ²  in their ³  towns, the people assembled ⁴  in ⁵  Jerusalem. ⁶ 

for you live among them. ¹  You sustain the oppressed with your good blessings, O God.

Then the Levitical priests ¹  will approach (for the Lord your God has chosen them to serve him and to pronounce blessings in his name, ²  and to decide ³  every judicial verdict ⁴ )

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (the son of Haran), and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and with them he set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. When they came to Haran, they settled there.

They burned ¹  all their towns ²  where they lived and all their encampments.

Some from the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim and Manasseh settled in Jerusalem. ¹ 

They settled down in it and built in it a temple ¹  to honor you, ²  saying,

Some of the Judean divisions of the Levites settled in Benjamin.

A mongrel people will live in Ashdod, for I will greatly humiliate the Philistines.

As you are going with your accuser before the magistrate, ¹  make an effort to settle with him on the way, so that he will not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, ²  and the officer throw you into prison.

When Pharaoh heard ¹  about this event, ²  he sought to kill Moses. So Moses fled ³  from Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, ⁴  and he settled ⁵  by a certain well. ⁶ 

When ¹  you enter the land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you occupy it and live in it,

So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had solemnly promised to their ancestors, ¹  and they conquered ²  it and lived in it.

David also brought along the men who were with him, each with his family. They settled in the cities ¹  of Hebron.
