The stingy person ¹  hastens after riches and does not know that poverty will overtake him. ² 

The city’s rich men think nothing of resorting to violence; ¹  her inhabitants lie, ²  their tongues speak deceptive words. ³

The one who oppresses the poor to increase his own gain and the one who gives to the rich ¹  – both end up only in poverty.

If then you haven’t been trustworthy ¹  in handling worldly wealth, ²  who will entrust you with the true riches? ³ 

The Lord impoverishes and makes wealthy; he humbles and he exalts.
