Let the family ¹  of Aaron say, “Yes, his loyal love endures!”

Let the loyal followers of the Lord ¹  say, “Yes, his loyal love endures!”

“As surely as I live, declares the sovereign Lord, ¹  you will not quote this proverb in Israel anymore!

because John had repeatedly told ¹  him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” ² 

He begged Jesus ¹  repeatedly not to send them out of the region.

For John had repeatedly told ¹  Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” ² 

And Jesus ¹  ordered them, ²  “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees ³  and the yeast of Herod!”

Many gave false testimony against him, but their testimony did not agree.

There was also a widow ¹  in that city ²  who kept coming ³  to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’

They ¹  blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly, ²  “Prophesy! Who hit you?” ³ 

They ¹  came up to him again and again ²  and said, “Hail, king of the Jews!” ³  And they struck him repeatedly ⁴  in the face.

and came ¹  and apologized to them. After ²  they brought them out, they asked them repeatedly ³  to leave the city.

except ¹  that the Holy Spirit warns ²  me in town after town ³  that ⁴  imprisonment ⁵  and persecutions ⁶  are waiting for me.

was caught up into paradise ¹  and heard things too sacred to be put into words, ²  things that a person ³  is not permitted to speak.

but to repeat the text cited earlier: ¹  “They will never enter my rest!”

Hear ¹  the sound of those who divide the sheep ²  among the watering places; there they tell of ³  the Lord’s victorious deeds, the victorious deeds of his warriors ⁴  in Israel. Then the Lord’s people went down to the city gates –

So the Lord’s word to them will sound like meaningless gibberish, senseless babbling, a syllable here, a syllable there. ¹  As a result, they will fall on their backsides when they try to walk, ²  and be injured, ensnared, and captured. ³ 

This will happen because the people of Israel and Judah have repeatedly done what displeases me ¹  from their earliest history until now ²  and because they ³  have repeatedly made me angry by the things they have done. ⁴  I, the Lord, affirm it! ⁵ 

I will make many stumble. ¹  They will fall over one another in their hurry to flee. ²  They will say, ‘Get up! Let’s go back to our own people. Let’s go back to our homelands because the enemy is coming to destroy us.’ ³ 

for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the consummation of the ages to put away sin by his sacrifice.
