You prove to be reliable ¹  to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive ²  to one who is perverse. ³ 

May the arrogant be humiliated, for they have slandered me! ¹  But I meditate on your precepts.

The one who conducts himself ¹  in integrity ²  will live ³  securely, but the one who behaves perversely ⁴  will be found out.

The one who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord, ¹  but the one who is perverted in his ways ²  despises him.

The human mind is more deceitful than anything else. It is incurably bad. ¹  Who can understand it?

For they eat bread ¹  gained from wickedness ²  and drink wine obtained from violence. ³ 

When your people ¹  come to their senses ²  in the land where they are held prisoner, they will repent and beg for your mercy in the land of their imprisonment, admitting, ‘We have sinned and gone astray; ³  we have done evil.’

So also ¹  Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, ²  since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire ³  in a way similar to ⁴  these angels, ⁵  are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

He ¹  has not looked on iniquity in Jacob, ²  nor has he seen trouble ³  in Israel. The Lord their God is with them; his acclamation ⁴  as king is among them.

If the wicked are shown mercy, they do not learn about justice. ¹  Even in a land where right is rewarded, they act unjustly; ²  they do not see the Lord’s majesty revealed.

For your hands are stained with blood and your fingers with sin; your lips speak lies, your tongue utters malicious words.

and constant bickering by people corrupted in their minds and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness ¹  is a way of making a profit.

Is there any falsehood ¹  on my lips? Can my mouth ²  not discern evil things? ³ 

‘Surely such is the residence ¹  of an evil man; and this is the place of one who has not known God.’” ² 

The wicked turn aside from birth; ¹  liars go astray as soon as they are born. ² 

Hold them accountable for all their sins! ¹  Do not vindicate them! ² 

The backslider ¹  will be paid back ²  from his own ways, but a good person will be rewarded ³  for his.

The way of the guilty person ¹  is devious, ²  but as for the pure, ³  his way is upright.

When a righteous man turns from his godliness and commits iniquity, he will die for it.

and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man in anguish over the debauched lifestyle of lawless ¹  men, ²
