He poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel he had wrapped around himself. ¹ 

So he ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, ¹  and Philip baptized ²  him.

“No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, ¹  can he?” ² 

And I remembered the word of the Lord, ¹  as he used to say, ²  ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ³ 

Then ¹  the serpent spouted water like a river out of his mouth after the woman in an attempt to ²  sweep her away by a flood,

Then ¹  the third angel ²  poured out his bowl on the rivers and the springs of water, and they turned into blood.

Then ¹  the sixth angel ²  poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates and dried up its water ³  to prepare the way ⁴  for the kings from the east. ⁵ 

He also said to me, “It is done! ¹  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give water ²  free of charge ³  from the spring of the water of life.

“I baptize you with water, for repentance, but the one coming after me is more powerful than I am – I am not worthy ¹  to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. ² 

After ¹  Jesus was baptized, just as he was coming up out of the water, the ²  heavens ³  opened ⁴  and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove ⁵  and coming on him.

And he said, ¹  “Go!” So ²  they came out and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake and drowned in the water.

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, ¹  he will never lose his reward.”

John answered them all, ¹  “I baptize you with water, ²  but one more powerful than I am is coming – I am not worthy ³  to untie the strap ⁴  of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. ⁵ 

and as they sailed he fell asleep. Now a violent windstorm ¹  came down on the lake, ²  and the boat ³  started filling up with water, and they were in danger.

Then ¹  he said to them, “Where is your faith?” ²  But they were afraid and amazed, ³  saying to one another, “Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water, ⁴  and they obey him!”

Then the Lord answered him, ¹  “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from its stall, ²  and lead it to water? ³ 

So ¹  he called out, ²  ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus ³  to dip the tip of his finger ⁴  in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish ⁵  in this fire.’ ⁶ 

He said to them, “Listen, ¹  when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water ²  will meet you. ³  Follow him into the house that he enters,

And I did not recognize him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining – this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’

So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you – a Jew ¹  – ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water ²  to drink?” (For Jews use nothing in common ³  with Samaritans.) ⁴
