Now therefore, please stay ¹  the night here also, that I may know what more the Lord might say to me.” ² 

Joshua and the whole army marched against Ai. ¹  Joshua selected thirty thousand brave warriors and sent them out at night.

That night the Lord said to Gideon, ¹  “Get up! Attack ²  the camp, for I am handing it over to you. ³ 

Now, come up ¹  at night with your men ²  and set an ambush in the field outside the city. ³ 

When the man got ready to leave, ¹  his father-in-law convinced him to stay another night. ² 

In the middle of the night he was startled ¹  and turned over. ²  Now ³  he saw a woman ⁴  lying beside him! ⁵ 

She brought it to Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they arose and left that same night.

That night God appeared ¹  to Solomon and said to him, “Tell me ²  what I should give you.”

So we prayed to our God and stationed a guard to protect against them ¹  both day and night.

The traders and sellers of all kinds of merchandise spent the night outside Jerusalem once or twice.

“Let the day on which ¹  I was born ²  perish, and the night that said, ³  ‘A man ⁴  has been conceived!’ ⁵ 

In the troubling thoughts ¹  of the dreams ²  in the night when a deep sleep ³  falls on men,

They meet with darkness in the daytime, ¹  and grope about ²  in the noontime as if it were night. ³ 

These men ¹  change ²  night into day; they say, ³  ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’ ⁴ 

But ¹  no stranger had to spend the night outside, for I opened my doors to the traveler ²  –

In a dream, a night vision, when deep sleep falls on people as they sleep in their beds.

Is the wild ox willing to be your servant? Will it spend the night at your feeding trough?

It lives on a rock and spends the night there, on a rocky crag ¹  and a fortress. ² 

Instead ¹  he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands; ²  he meditates on ³  his commands ⁴  day and night.

For day and night you tormented me; ¹  you tried to destroy me ²  in the intense heat ³  of summer. ⁴  (Selah)
