י (Yod) The elders of Daughter Zion sit ¹  on the ground in silence. ²  They have thrown dirt on their heads; They have dressed in sackcloth. ³  Jerusalem’s young women ⁴  stare down at the ground. ⁵ 

Does a bird swoop down into a trap on the ground if there is no bait? Does a trap spring up from the ground unless it has surely caught something?

God called the dry ground “land” ¹  and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.

Then she gave birth ¹  to his brother Abel. ²  Abel took care of the flocks, while Cain cultivated the ground. ³

So Joseph moved them from Israel’s knees ¹  and bowed down with his face to the ground.

Then Moses and Aaron fell down with their faces to the ground ¹  before the whole assembled community ²  of the Israelites.

However, you must not eat its blood; you must pour it out on the ground like water.

Samuel continued to grow, and the Lord was with him. None of his prophecies fell to the ground unfulfilled. ¹

They set your sanctuary on fire; they desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground. ¹ 

He provides grass ¹  for the cattle, and crops for people to cultivate, ²  so they can produce food from the ground, ³
