“Blessed are you when people ¹  insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things about you falsely ²  on account of me.

But you have dishonored the poor! ¹  Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?

He wrote letters mocking the Lord God of Israel and insulting him with these words: ¹  “The gods of the surrounding nations could not rescue their people from my power. Neither can Hezekiah’s god rescue his people from my power.” ²

Indeed, ¹  it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, ²  or else I could hide from him.

“Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: Look, I have spoken in my zeal and in my anger, because you have endured the insults of the nations.

I will no longer subject you to ¹  the nations’ insults; no longer will you bear the shame of the peoples, and no longer will you bereave ²  your nation, declares the sovereign Lord.’”

“Blessed are you when people ¹  hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evil ²  on account of the Son of Man!

But I ¹  am a worm, ²  not a man; ³  people insult me and despise me. ⁴ 

before the vindictive enemy who ridicules and insults me. ¹ 

Spare me ¹  shame and humiliation, for I observe your rules.

Take away the insults that I dread! ¹  Indeed, ²  your regulations are good.

A poor person makes supplications, ¹  but a rich man answers harshly. ² 

But I say to you that anyone who is angry with a brother ¹  will be subjected to judgment. And whoever insults ²  a brother will be brought before ³  the council, ⁴  and whoever says ‘Fool’ ⁵  will be sent ⁶  to fiery hell. ⁷

These ten times ¹  you have been reproaching me; ²  you are not ashamed to attack me! ³ 

Rise up, O God! Defend your honor! ¹  Remember how fools insult you all day long! ²
