I prayed for this boy, and the Lord has given me the request that I asked of him.

Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord. The boy was dressed in a linen ephod.

Now the boy Samuel was growing up and finding favor both with the Lord and with people.

The next morning Jonathan, along with a young servant, went out to the field to meet David.

(Now the servant did not understand any of this. Only Jonathan and David knew what was going on.) ¹ 

So David’s servants went and spoke all these words to Nabal in David’s name. Then they paused.

So David’s servants went on their way. When they had returned, they came and told David ¹  all these things.

and said to her servants, “Go on ahead of me. I will come after you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal.

Now let this present ¹  that your servant has brought to my lord be given to the servants who follow ²  my lord.

David replied, “Here is the king’s spear! Let one of your servants cross over and get it.

Then David called one of the soldiers ¹  and said, “Come here and strike him down!” So he struck him down, and he died.

Abner said to Joab, “Let the soldiers get up and fight ¹  before us.” Joab said, “So be it!” ² 

Then ten soldiers who were Joab’s armor bearers struck Absalom and finished him off.

So Jeroboam’s wife got up and went back to ¹  Tirzah. As she crossed the threshold of the house, the boy died.

They marched out of the city with the servants of the district governors in the lead and the army behind them.

He told his servant Gehazi, “Ask the Shunammite woman to come here.” ¹  So he did so and she came to him. ² 

He said to his father, “My head! My head!” His father ¹  told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.”

The mother of the child said, “As certainly as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So Elisha ¹  got up and followed her back.

When Elisha arrived at the house, there was ¹  the child lying dead on his bed.

along with Zadok, a young warrior, and twenty-two leaders from his family.
