So he did ¹  as the Lord told him; he went and lived in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.

The ravens would bring him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he would drink from the stream.

After a while, ¹  the stream dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

and he said, “This is what the Lord says, ‘Make many cisterns in this valley,’ ¹ 

I continued up the valley during the night, inspecting the wall. Then I turned back and came to the Valley Gate, and so returned.

The clods of the torrent valley ¹  are sweet to him; behind him everybody follows in procession, and before him goes a countless throng.

Every living creature which swarms where the river ¹  flows will live; there will be many fish, for these waters flow there. It will become fresh ²  and everything will live where the river flows.
