When Peleg had lived 30 years, he became the father of Reu.

When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug.

When Serug had lived 30 years, he became the father of Nahor.

When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah.

Abraham said to God, “O that ¹  Ishmael might live before you!” ² 

Then he uttered this oracle: “O, who will survive when God does this! ¹ 

May Reuben live and not die, and may his people multiply. ¹ 

“Why do the wicked go on living, ¹  grow old, ²  even increase in power?

so that he might continue to live ¹  forever and not experience death. ² 

The oppressed look on – let them rejoice! You who seek God, ¹  may you be encouraged! ² 

Then we will not turn away from you. Revive us and we will pray to you! ¹ 

Will you not revive us once more? Then your people will rejoice in you!

I will not die, but live, and I will proclaim what the Lord has done. ¹ 

I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have revived me.

See how I love your precepts! O Lord, revive me with your loyal love!

O Lord, for the sake of your reputation, ¹  revive me! ²  Because of your justice, rescue me from trouble! ³ 

The one who is greedy for gain ¹  troubles ²  his household, ³  but whoever hates bribes ⁴  will live.

This is the prayer of King Hezekiah of Judah when he was sick and then recovered from his illness:

Leave your orphans behind and I will keep them alive. Your widows too can depend on me.” ¹ 

The Lord says this to the family ¹  of Israel: “Seek me ²  so you can live!
