His flesh wastes away from sight, and his bones, which were not seen, are easily visible. ¹ 

all flesh would perish together and human beings would return to dust.

The folds ¹  of its flesh are tightly joined; they are firm on it, immovable. ² 

For I am overcome with shame ¹  and my whole body is sick. ² 

You hear prayers; ¹  all people approach you. ²

I will reduce the people of this city to desperate straits during the siege imposed on it by their enemies who are seeking to kill them. I will make them so desperate that they will eat the flesh of their own sons and daughters and the flesh of one another.”’” ¹ 

You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskins. This will be a reminder ¹  of the covenant between me and you.

They must indeed be circumcised, ¹  whether born in your house or bought with money. The sign of my covenant ²  will be visible in your flesh as a permanent ³  reminder.

his son Ishmael was thirteen years old ¹  when he was circumcised.
