He ¹  sent messengers on ahead of him. ²  As they went along, ³  they entered a Samaritan village to make things ready in advance ⁴  for him,

As ¹  they were walking ²  along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” ³ 

Nevertheless I must ¹  go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, because it is impossible ²  that a prophet should be killed ³  outside Jerusalem.’ ⁴ 

Then ¹  the rich man ²  said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead ³  goes to them, they will repent.’

Now on ¹  the way to Jerusalem, ²  Jesus ³  was passing along ⁴  between Samaria and Galilee.

Therefore he said, “A nobleman ¹  went to a distant country to receive ²  for himself a kingdom and then return. ³ 

Jesus ¹  sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover ²  for us to eat.” ³ 

But Peter ¹  said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” ² 

“Go and stand in the temple courts ¹  and proclaim ²  to the people all the words of this life.”

So they left the council rejoicing because they had been considered worthy ¹  to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name. ² 

As he was going along, approaching ¹  Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed ²  around him.

But get up, ¹  go down, and accompany them without hesitation, ²  because I have sent them.”

In ¹  past ²  generations he allowed all the nations ³  to go their own ways,

Then, after conferring with his council, ¹  Festus ²  replied, “You have appealed to Caesar; ³  to Caesar ⁴  you will go!” ⁵ 

and perhaps I will stay with you, or even spend the winter, so that you can send me on my journey, wherever I go.

As I urged you when I was leaving for Macedonia, stay on in Ephesus ¹  to instruct ²  certain people not to spread false teachings, ³ 

who went into heaven and is at the right hand of God ¹  with angels and authorities and powers subject to him. ² 

For they said to you, “In the end time there will come ¹  scoffers, propelled by their own ungodly desires.” ² 

Go and learn what this saying means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ ¹  For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

While they were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness ¹  to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ²
