I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom ¹  than for that town! ² 

He said, ¹  “In a certain city ²  there was a judge ³  who neither feared God nor respected people. ⁴ 

(This ¹  was a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection ²  started in the city, and for murder.) ³ 

Then the woman left her water jar, went off into the town and said to the people, ¹ 

But stand up ¹  and enter the city and you will be told ²  what you must do.”

On the next Sabbath almost the whole city assembled together to hear the word of the Lord. ¹ 

Paul and Barnabas ¹  learned about it ²  and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra ³  and Derbe ⁴  and the surrounding region.

After they had proclaimed the good news in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, ¹  to Iconium, ²  and to Antioch. ³ 

except ¹  that the Holy Spirit warns ²  me in town after town ³  that ⁴  imprisonment ⁵  and persecutions ⁶  are waiting for me.

In Damascus, the governor ¹  under King Aretas was guarding the city of Damascus ²  in order to arrest ³  me,

For he was looking forward to the city with firm foundations, ¹  whose architect and builder is God.

and began to shout ¹  when they saw the smoke from the fire that burned her up, ²  “Who is like the great city?”

The city’s ¹  wall is made ²  of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass. ³ 

He came to a town called Nazareth ¹  and lived there. Then what had been spoken by the prophets was fulfilled, that Jesus ²  would be called a Nazarene. ³ 

not by earth, because it is his footstool, and not by Jerusalem, ¹  because it is the city of the great King.

Then ¹  the entire town ²  came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.

Jesus sent out these twelve, instructing them as follows: ¹  “Do not go to Gentile regions ²  and do not enter any Samaritan town. ³ 

Whenever ¹  you enter a town or village, ²  find out who is worthy there ³  and stay with them ⁴  until you leave.

When ¹  Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their towns.

Now when Jesus heard this he went away from there privately in a boat to an isolated place. But when the crowd heard about it, ¹  they followed him on foot from the towns. ²
