After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law, ¹  he asked them where the Christ ²  was to be born.

Then Herod ¹  privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared.

On that day after Jesus went out of the house, he sat by the lake.

Jesus ¹  went out again by the sea. The whole crowd came to him, and he taught them.

¹ [[Early on the first day of the week, after he arose, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons.

So ¹  the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, ²  Mary, for you have found favor ³  with God!

Now ¹  in those days a decree ²  went out from Caesar ³  Augustus ⁴  to register ⁵  all the empire ⁶  for taxes.

The ¹  whole crowd was trying to touch him, because power ²  was coming out from him and healing them all.

But when Jesus discerned their innermost thoughts, ¹  he took a child, had him stand by ²  his side,

As he spoke, ¹  a Pharisee ²  invited Jesus ³  to have a meal with him, so he went in and took his place at the table. ⁴ 

He ¹  fell with his face to the ground ²  at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. ³  (Now ⁴  he was a Samaritan.) ⁵ 

As ¹  Jesus ²  approached ³  Jericho, ⁴  a blind man was sitting by the road begging.

So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking ¹  him to stay with them. ²  He stayed there two days,

(I do not accept ¹  human testimony, but I say this so that you may be saved.)

and placing them at the apostles’ feet. The proceeds ¹  were distributed to each, as anyone had need.

sold ¹  a field ²  that belonged to him and brought the money ³  and placed it at the apostles’ feet.

and here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison ¹  all who call on your name!” ² 

and because he worked at the same trade, he stayed with them and worked with them ¹  (for they were tentmakers ²  by trade). ³ 

When you examine ¹  him yourself, you will be able to learn from him ²  about all these things we are accusing him of doing.” ³ 

There ¹  we found ²  some brothers ³  and were invited to stay with them seven days. And in this way we came to Rome. ⁴
