But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Now ¹  as Jesus ²  was starting out on his way, someone ran up to him, fell on his knees, and said, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

Now ¹  an expert in religious law ²  stood up to test Jesus, ³  saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ⁴ 

who will not receive many times more ¹  in this age ²  – and in the age to come, eternal life.” ³ 

The one who reaps receives pay ¹  and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps can rejoice together.

You study the scriptures thoroughly ¹  because you think in them you possess eternal life, ²  and it is these same scriptures ³  that testify about me,

The one who eats ¹  my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. ² 

The thief comes only to steal and kill ¹  and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. ² 

I give ¹  them eternal life, and they will never perish; ²  no one will snatch ³  them from my hand.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live ¹  even if he dies,

And I know that his commandment is eternal life. ¹  Thus the things I say, I say just as the Father has told me.” ² 

Jesus replied, ¹  “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. ²  No one comes to the Father except through me.

Now this ¹  is eternal life ²  – that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, ³  whom you sent.

You killed ¹  the Originator ²  of life, whom God raised ³  from the dead. To this fact we are witnesses! ⁴ 

In humiliation ¹  justice was taken from him. ²  Who can describe his posterity? ³  For his life was taken away ⁴  from the earth.” ⁵ 

When they heard this, ¹  they ceased their objections ²  and praised ³  God, saying, “So then, God has granted the repentance ⁴  that leads to life even to the Gentiles.” ⁵ 

When the Gentiles heard this, they began to rejoice ¹  and praise ²  the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed for eternal life ³  believed.

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, since we have been reconciled, will we be saved by his life?

Consequently, ¹  just as condemnation ²  for all people ³  came ⁴  through one transgression, ⁵  so too through the one righteous act ⁶  came righteousness leading to life ⁷  for all people.

so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
