it is not from ¹  works, so that no one can boast. ² 

They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us, because if they had belonged to us, they would have remained ¹  with us. But ²  they went out from us ³  to demonstrate ⁴  that all of them do not belong to us. ⁵ 

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person.

Just as Jesus ¹  was getting out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit ²  came from the tombs and met him. ³ 

but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give. It is for those for whom it has been prepared.” ¹ 

What is born of the flesh is flesh, ¹  and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

After this many of his disciples quit following him ¹  and did not accompany him ²  any longer.

I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe ¹  from the evil one. ² 

But the voice replied a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, you must not consider ¹  ritually unclean!’

I will rescue ¹  you from your own people ²  and from the Gentiles, to whom ³  I am sending you

Why not? Because they pursued ¹  it not by faith but (as if it were possible) by works. ²  They stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³ 

A person should examine himself first, ¹  and in this way ²  let him eat the bread and drink of the cup.

to the latter an odor ¹  from death to death, but to the former a fragrance from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? ² 

Not that we are adequate ¹  in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy ²  is from God,

Each one of you should give ¹  just as he has decided in his heart, ²  not reluctantly ³  or under compulsion, ⁴  because God loves a cheerful giver.

The only thing I want to learn from you is this: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the law ¹  or by believing what you heard? ² 

Does God then give ¹  you the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law ²  or by your believing what you heard? ³ 

For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise, but God graciously gave ¹  it to Abraham through the promise.

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the ¹  slave woman and the other by the free woman.

But one, the son by the slave woman, was born by natural descent, ¹  while the other, the son by the free woman, was born through the promise.
