But Jesus said to them, “He wrote this commandment for you because of your hard hearts. ¹ 

He ¹  asked for a writing tablet ²  and wrote, ³  “His name is John.” And they were all amazed. ⁴ 

(just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male ¹  will be set apart to the Lord” ² ),

Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man ¹  does not live by bread alone.’” ² 

and said to them, “Thus it stands written that the Christ ¹  would suffer ²  and would rise from the dead on the third day,

His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal ¹  for your house will devour me.” ² 

It is written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. ¹ 

Now this happened ¹  to fulfill the word that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without reason.’ ² 

When they had accomplished ¹  everything that was written ²  about him, they took him down ³  from the cross ⁴  and placed him ⁵  in a tomb.

that this promise ¹  God has fulfilled to us, their children, by raising ²  Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son; ³  today I have fathered you.’ ⁴ 

As it is written, “For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” ¹ 

For Moses writes about the righteousness that is by the law: “The one who does these things will live by them.” ¹ 

And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How timely ¹  is the arrival ²  of those who proclaim the good news.” ³ 

but as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.” ¹ 

For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will thwart the cleverness of the intelligent.” ¹ 

If anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, he should acknowledge that what I write to you is the Lord’s command.

For this reason also I wrote you: ¹  to test you to see ²  if you are obedient in everything.

as it is written: “The one who gathered ¹  much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.” ² 

For it is not necessary ¹  for me to write you about this service ²  to the saints,

Just as it is written, “He ¹  has scattered widely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever.” ²
