Insight ¹  is like ²  a life-giving fountain ³  to the one who possesses it, but folly leads to the discipline of fools. ⁴ 

Excessive ¹  speech ²  is not becoming for a fool; ³  how much less are lies ⁴  for a ruler! ⁵ 

It is better for a person to meet ¹  a mother bear being robbed of her cubs, than ²  to encounter ³  a fool in his folly. ⁴ 

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴ 

Do not speak in the ears of a fool, ¹  for he will despise the wisdom of your words. ² 

Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor ¹  is not fitting for a fool. ² 

Answer a fool according to his folly, ¹  lest he be wise in his own estimation. ²

Like tying a stone in a sling, ¹  so is giving honor to a fool.

Like a thorn ¹  that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of a fool. ² 

Like a dog that returns to its vomit, ¹  so a fool repeats his folly. ² 

Do you see ¹  a man wise in his own eyes? ²  There is more hope for a fool ³  than for him.

A fool lets fly with all his temper, ¹  but a wise person keeps it back. ² 

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of merrymaking. ¹ 

It is better for a person to receive ¹  a rebuke from those who are wise ²  than to listen to the song ³  of fools.

Do not let yourself be quickly provoked, ¹  for anger resides in the lap ²  of fools.

The words of a wise person ¹  win him ²  favor, ³  but the words ⁴  of a fool are self-destructive. ⁵ 

The toil of a stupid fool ¹  wears him out, ²  because he does not even know the way to the city. ³ 

Take notice of this, ¹  you ignorant people! ²  You fools, when will you ever understand?

For the waywardness ¹  of the simpletons will kill ²  them, and the careless ease ³  of fools will destroy them.
