The ransom ¹  of a person’s ²  life is his wealth, but the poor person hears no threat. ³ 

When he found a pearl of great value, he went out and sold everything he had and bought it.

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom ¹  for many.”

Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? ¹  Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.

and they began selling ¹  their property ²  and possessions and distributing the proceeds ³  to everyone, as anyone had need.

Thus we are full of courage and would prefer to be away ¹  from the body and at home with the Lord.

who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God’s purpose at his appointed time. ¹

So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh. Each ¹  of the Egyptians sold his field, for the famine was severe. ²  So the land became Pharaoh’s.

Joseph said to the people, “Since I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed for you. Cultivate ¹  the land.

If you do take ¹  the garment of your neighbor in pledge, you must return it to him by the time the sun goes down, ² 

You may buy it from your fellow citizen according to the number of years since ¹  the last jubilee; he may sell it to you according to the years of produce that are left. ² 

The land must not be sold without reclaim ¹  because the land belongs to me, for you are foreigners and residents with me. ² 

Moreover, you must not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death; he must surely be put to death.

and will bring the entire army back to you. In exchange for the life of the man you are seeking, you will get back everyone. ¹  The entire army will return unharmed.” ² 

He gives back the ill-gotten gain ¹  without assimilating it; ²  he will not enjoy the wealth from his commerce. ³ 

The Lord says, ¹  “At that time young women will dance and be glad. Young men and old men will rejoice. ²  I will turn their grief into gladness. I will give them comfort and joy in place of their sorrow.
