This ¹  is what comforts me in my trouble, for your promise revives me. ²

Both Judas and Silas, who were prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with a long speech. ¹

to strengthen those who mourn in Zion, by giving them a turban, instead of ashes, oil symbolizing joy, ¹  instead of mourning, a garment symbolizing praise, ²  instead of discouragement. ³  They will be called oaks of righteousness, ⁴  trees planted by the Lord to reveal his splendor. ⁵ 

So now, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your little children.” Then he consoled them and spoke kindly ¹  to them.

So David comforted his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and had marital relations with her. ¹  She gave birth to a son, and David ²  named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved the child ³ 

Come, let’s drink deeply ¹  of lovemaking ²  until morning, let’s delight ourselves ³  with sexual intercourse. ⁴ 

At that time ¹  you will say: “I praise you, O Lord, for even though you were angry with me, your anger subsided, and you consoled me.

“I, I am the one who consoles you. ¹  Why are you afraid of mortal men, of mere human beings who are as short-lived as grass? ² 

In unison give a joyful shout, O ruins of Jerusalem! For the Lord consoles his people; he protects ¹  Jerusalem.

I have seen their behavior, ¹  but I will heal them and give them rest, and I will once again console those who mourn. ² 

to announce the year when the Lord will show his favor, the day when our God will seek vengeance, ¹  to console all who mourn,

Then you will do as I have done: You will not cover your lip or eat food brought by others. ¹
