And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades ¹  will not overpower it.

And God ¹  put ²  all things under Christ’s ³  feet, ⁴  and he gave him to the church as head over all things. ⁵ 

But Saul was trying to destroy ¹  the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off ²  both men and women and put them in prison. ³ 

When they had appointed elders ¹  for them in the various churches, ²  with prayer and fasting ³  they entrusted them to the protection ⁴  of the Lord in whom they had believed.

When they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported ¹  all the things God ²  had done with them, and that he had opened a door ³  of faith for the Gentiles.

Also greet the church in their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, ¹  who was the first convert ²  to Christ in the province of Asia. ³ 

Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus the city treasurer and our brother Quartus greet you. ¹ 

If anyone intends to quarrel about this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.

It is the same with you. Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, ¹  seek to abound in order to strengthen the church.

If they want to find out about something, they should ask their husbands at home, because it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church. ¹ 

For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

Now we make known to you, brothers and sisters, ¹  the grace of God given to the churches of Macedonia,

And we are sending ¹  along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his work in spreading the gospel. ² 

If there is any question ¹  about Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you; if there is any question about our brothers, they are messengers ²  of the churches, a glory to Christ.

Therefore show ¹  them openly before the churches the proof of your love and of our pride in you. ² 

For how ¹  were you treated worse than the other churches, except that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this injustice!

The purpose of this enlightenment is that ¹  through the church the multifaceted wisdom ²  of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms.

For no one has ever hated his own body ¹  but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church,

He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn ¹  from among the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things. ²
