They have committed treason ¹  against the Lord, because they bore illegitimate children. Soon ²  the new moon festival will devour them and their fields.

Just as lion cubs are born predators, ¹  so Ephraim will bear his sons for slaughter.

As a result they ¹  will conquer those left in Edom ²  and all the nations subject to my rule.” ³  The Lord, who is about to do this, is speaking!

Wail, you who live in the market district, ¹  for all the merchants ²  will disappear ³  and those who count money ⁴  will be removed. ⁵ 

Know for sure that I will then enable the nations to give me acceptable praise. ¹  All of them will invoke the Lord’s name when they pray, ²  and will worship him in unison. ³ 

“As for those who grieve because they cannot attend the festivals – I took them away from you; they became tribute and were a source of shame to you. ¹ 

On that day the bells of the horses will bear the inscription “Holy to the Lord.” The cooking pots in the Lord’s temple ¹  will be as holy as the bowls in front of the altar. ² 

Other seed fell among the thorns, ¹  and they grew up and choked it, ²  and it did not produce grain.

He sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar ¹  of water will meet you. Follow him.

She ¹  exclaimed with a loud voice, ²  “Blessed are you among women, ³  and blessed is the child ⁴  in your womb!

He said to them, “Listen, ¹  when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water ²  will meet you. ³  Follow him into the house that he enters,

Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the head steward,” ¹  and they did.

You study the scriptures thoroughly ¹  because you think in them you possess eternal life, ²  and it is these same scriptures ³  that testify about me,

But they will do all these things to you on account of ¹  my name, because they do not know the one who sent me. ² 

When the Advocate ¹  comes, whom I will send you from the Father – the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father – he ²  will testify about me,

Simeon ¹  has explained ²  how God first concerned himself ³  to select ⁴  from among the Gentiles ⁵  a people for his name.

so that the rest of humanity ¹  may seek the Lord, namely, ²  all the Gentiles ³  I have called to be my own,’ ⁴  says the Lord, ⁵  who makes these things

But now ¹  apart from the law the righteousness of God (which is attested by the law and the prophets) ²  has been disclosed –

But I ask, have they ¹  not heard? ²  Yes, they have: ³  Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. ⁴ 

I fed you milk, ¹  not solid food, for you were not yet ready. In fact, you are still not ready,
