“Why do the wicked go on living, ¹  grow old, ²  even increase in power?

His house contains wealth and riches; his integrity endures. ¹ 

Fools ¹  are placed in many positions of authority, ²  while wealthy men sit in lowly positions.

But when the man ¹  heard this he became very sad, ²  for he was extremely wealthy.

Ephraim boasts, ¹  “I am very rich! I have become wealthy! ²  In all that I have done to gain my wealth, ³  no one can accuse me of any offense ⁴  that is actually sinful.” ⁵ 

Now in a wealthy home ¹  there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also ones made of wood and of clay, and some are for honorable use, but others for ignoble use. ² 

Then ¹  the kings of the earth, the ²  very important people, the generals, ³  the rich, the powerful, and everyone, slave ⁴  and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.

In this way God has snatched away your father’s livestock and given them to me.

These who are named above were the leaders of their clans. Their extended families increased greatly in numbers.

Jehoshaphat was very wealthy and greatly respected. He made an alliance by marriage with Ahab,

Wealthy people do not understand; ¹  they are like animals ²  that perish. ³ 

The one who is lazy ¹  becomes poor, ²  but the one who works diligently ³  becomes wealthy. ⁴ 

Lambs ¹  will graze as if in their pastures, amid the ruins the rich sojourners will graze. ² 

A fool will no longer be called honorable; a deceiver will no longer be called principled.

Now ¹  when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus. ² 

Now ¹  a man named Zacchaeus was there; he was a chief tax collector ²  and was rich.

You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous on every occasion, ¹  which is producing through us thanksgiving to God,

In this way Jacob ¹  became extremely prosperous. He owned ²  large flocks, male and female servants, camels, and donkeys.

Be careful ¹  not to say, “My own ability and skill ²  have gotten me this wealth.”

By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself; you have amassed gold and silver in your treasuries.
