and more cedar logs than could be counted. (The Sidonians and Tyrians had brought a large amount of cedar logs to David.)

He is wise in heart ¹  and mighty ²  in strength ³  – who has resisted ⁴  him and remained safe? ⁵ 

He piles up the water of the sea; ¹  he puts the oceans ²  in storehouses.

No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might.

O Lord, your loyal love reaches to the sky; ¹  your faithfulness to the clouds. ² 

He sent swarms of biting insects against them, ¹  as well as frogs that overran their land. ² 

Yet he protected ¹  the needy from oppression, and cared for his families like a flock of sheep.

The Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise! No one can fathom his greatness! ¹ 

Their land is full of gold and silver; there is no end to their wealth. ¹  Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. ² 

and the Lord has sent the people off to a distant place, and the very heart of the land is completely abandoned. ¹ 

With bow and arrow ¹  men will hunt ²  there, for the whole land will be covered ³  with thorns and briers.

This whole area ¹  will become a desolate wasteland. These nations will be subject to the king of Babylon for seventy years.’ ² 

When I had returned, I noticed ¹  a vast number of trees on the banks of the river, on both sides.

Then a powerful king ¹  will arise, exercising great authority and doing as he pleases.

He flashes ¹  destruction down upon the strong so that destruction overwhelms ²  the fortified places.)

As he got out he saw the large crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. ¹ 

Now you are declaring that you will resist the Lord’s rule through the Davidic dynasty. ¹  You have a huge army, ²  and bring with you the gold calves that Jeroboam made for you as gods.

Messengers ¹  arrived and reported to Jehoshaphat, “A huge army is attacking you from the other side of the Dead Sea, ²  from the direction of Edom. ³  Look, they are in Hazezon Tamar (that is, En Gedi).”

Foreigners living there will say, ¹  ‘We tried to heal her, but she could not be healed. Let’s leave Babylonia ²  and each go back to his own country. For judgment on her will be vast in its proportions. It will be like it is piled up to heaven, stacked up into the clouds.’ ³
