“Learn ¹  this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.

The king had them cast in earthen foundries ¹  in the region of the Jordan between Succoth and Zarethan.

Can food that is tasteless ¹  be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white ²  of an egg?

Indeed, God has made my heart faint; ¹  the Almighty has terrified me.

For the lips ¹  of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her seductive words ²  are smoother than olive oil,

Until the dawn arrives ¹  and the shadows flee, I will go up to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of my fury, and you will be melted in it.

choosing rather to be ill-treated with the people of God than to enjoy sin’s fleeting pleasure.

As silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin are gathered in a furnace so that the fire can melt them, so I will gather you in my anger and in my rage. I will deposit you there ¹  and melt you.

Then Abraham ran to the herd and chose a fine, tender calf, and gave it to a servant, ¹  who quickly prepared it. ²

May the evil deeds of the wicked ¹  come to an end! ²  But make the innocent ³  secure, ⁴  O righteous God, you who examine ⁵  inner thoughts and motives! ⁶ 

My strength drains away like water; ¹  all my bones are dislocated; my heart ²  is like wax; it melts away inside me.

He lifted me out of the watery pit, ¹  out of the slimy mud. ²  He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. ³ 

You, O Lord God, the invincible warrior, ¹  the God of Israel, rouse yourself and punish ²  all the nations! Have no mercy on any treacherous evildoers! (Selah)

As smoke is driven away by the wind, so you drive them away. ¹  As wax melts before fire, so the wicked are destroyed before God.

I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; ¹  I am in ²  deep water, and the current overpowers me.
