Instead, the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy ¹  is one of hills and valleys, a land that drinks in water from the rains, ² 

He draws up drops of water; they distill ¹  the rain into its mist, ² 

He ¹  will descend like rain on the mown grass, ²  like showers that drench ³  the earth. ⁴ 

He rained down manna for them to eat; he gave them the grain of heaven. ¹ 

He covers ¹  the sky with clouds, provides the earth with rain, and causes grass to grow on the hillsides. ² 

In the light of the king’s face ¹  there is life, and his favor is like the clouds ²  of the spring rain. ³ 

Like cloudy skies and wind that produce no rain, ¹  so is the one who boasts ²  of a gift not given. ³ 

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor ¹  is not fitting for a fool. ² 

They are dismayed because the ground is cracked ¹  because there has been no rain in the land. The farmers, too, are dismayed and bury their faces in their hands.

“Son of man, say to her: ‘You are a land that receives no rain ¹  or showers in the day of my anger.’ ² 

Then ¹  he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land sprouted with a harvest.

I will make it a wasteland; no one will prune its vines or hoe its ground, ¹  and thorns and briers will grow there. I will order the clouds not to drop any rain on it.

He rained down meat on them like dust, birds as numerous as the sand on the seashores. ¹ 

A poor person ¹  who oppresses the weak is like ²  a driving rain without food. ³ 

They do not say to themselves, ¹  “Let us revere the Lord our God. It is he who gives us the autumn rains and the spring rains at the proper time. It is he who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.” ² 

I will judge him with plague and bloodshed. I will rain down on him, his troops and the many peoples who are with him a torrential downpour, hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

So let us acknowledge him! ¹  Let us seek ²  to acknowledge ³  the Lord! He will come to our rescue as certainly as the appearance of the dawn, as certainly as the winter rain comes, as certainly as the spring rain that waters the land.”

Then Elijah told Ahab, “Go on up and eat and drink, for the sound of a heavy rainstorm can be heard.” ¹
