after they were disobedient long ago ¹  when God patiently waited ²  in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. In the ark ³  a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water.

I, John, your brother and the one who shares ¹  with you in the persecution, kingdom, and endurance that ²  are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony about Jesus. ³ 

Rely ¹  on the Lord! Be strong and confident! ²  Rely on the Lord!

But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with endurance. ¹ 

with all humility and gentleness, ¹  with patience, bearing with ²  one another in love,

Now may the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God ¹  and the endurance of Christ. ²

It is good to wait patiently ¹  for deliverance from the Lord. ² 

By your endurance ¹  you will gain ²  your lives. ³ 

Better to be slow to anger ¹  than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper ²  is better than ³  one who captures a city. ⁴ 

I cry out ¹  until morning; like a lion he shatters all my bones; you turn day into night and end my life. ² 

For the message is a witness to what is decreed; ¹  it gives reliable testimony about how matters will turn out. ²  Even if the message ³  is not fulfilled right away, wait patiently; ⁴  for it will certainly come to pass – it will not arrive late.

For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.
