But because of immoralities, each man should have relations with ¹  his own wife and each woman with ²  her own husband.

To the married I give this command – not I, but the Lord ¹  – a wife should not divorce a husband

But a married man is concerned about the things of the world, how to please his wife,

Deacons must be husbands of one wife ¹  and good managers of their children and their own households.

But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, ¹  and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

Then some Pharisees ¹  came to him in order to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful ²  to divorce a wife for any cause?” ³ 

and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? ¹ 

The ¹  disciples said to him, “If this is the case of a husband with a wife, it is better not to marry!”

Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother.

For Herod himself had sent men, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod ¹  had married her.

Zechariah ¹  said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? ²  For I am an old man, and my wife is old as well.” ³ 

But when John rebuked Herod ¹  the tetrarch ²  because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, ³  and because of all the evil deeds ⁴  that he had done,

and Joanna the wife of Cuza ¹  (Herod’s ²  household manager), ³  Susanna, and many others who provided for them ⁴  out of their own resources.

“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries ¹  someone else commits adultery, and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Now standing beside Jesus’ cross were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. ¹ 

He ¹  kept back for himself part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge; he brought ²  only part of it and placed it at the apostles’ feet.

Some days later, when Felix ¹  arrived with his wife Drusilla, ²  who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him speak ³  about faith in Christ Jesus. ⁴ 

(but if she does, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband), and a husband should not divorce his wife.

Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?
