Now as a fair exchange – I speak as to my ¹  children – open wide your hearts to us ²  also.

Do not address an older man harshly ¹  but appeal to him as a father. Speak to younger men as brothers, ² 

For those who speak in such a way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! ¹  Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.

They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world’s perspective and the world listens to them.

Then they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute. Jesus ¹  healed him so that he could speak and see. ² 

While Jesus ¹  was still speaking to the crowds, ²  his mother and brothers ³  came and ⁴  stood outside, asking ⁵  to speak to him.

For this reason I speak to them in parables: Although they see they do not see, and although they hear they do not hear nor do they understand.

So ¹  he healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. ²  But ³  he would not permit the demons to speak, ⁴  because they knew him. ⁵ 

People were completely astounded and said, “He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; ¹ 

“Woe to you ¹  when all people ²  speak well of you, for their ancestors ³  did the same things to the false prophets.

Thus ¹  they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, ²  and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. ³ 

I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  we speak about what we know and testify about what we have seen, but ²  you people ³  do not accept our testimony. ⁴ 

If anyone wants to do God’s will, ¹  he will know about my teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak from my own authority. ² 

For I have not spoken from my own authority, ¹  but the Father himself who sent me has commanded me ²  what I should say and what I should speak.

I will not speak with you much longer, ¹  for the ruler of this world is coming. ²  He has no power over me, ³ 

So Pilate said, ¹  “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know I have the authority ²  to release you, and to crucify you?” ³ 

All ¹  of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages ²  as the Spirit enabled them. ³ 

“Brothers, ¹  I can speak confidently ²  to you about our forefather ³  David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
