But the rest said, “Leave him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come to save him.” ¹ 

God sent me ¹  ahead of you to preserve you ²  on the earth and to save your lives ³  by a great deliverance.

The Israelites said to Samuel, “Keep ¹  crying out to the Lord our ²  God so that he may save us ³  from the hand of the Philistines!”

But some wicked men ¹  said, “How can this man save us?” They despised him and did not even bring him a gift. But Saul said nothing about it. ² 

My God ¹  is my rocky summit where I take shelter, ²  my shield, the horn that saves me, ³  my stronghold, my refuge, my savior. You save me from violence! ⁴ 

Now ¹  let me give you some advice as to how ²  you can save your life and your son Solomon’s life.

But I replied, “Should a man like me run away? Would someone like me flee to the temple in order to save his life? ¹  I will not go!”

But ¹  Satan answered the Lord, “Skin for ²  skin! ³  Indeed, a man will give up ⁴  all that he has to save his life! ⁵ 

May the Lord protect him and save his life! ¹  May he be blessed ²  in the land! Do not turn him over ³  to his enemies! ⁴ 

I will certainly save you. You will not fall victim to violence. ¹  You will escape with your life ²  because you trust in me. I, the Lord, affirm it!”’” ³ 

Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, ¹  and Job, were in it, they would save only their own lives by their righteousness, declares the sovereign Lord.

I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and multiply it; I will not bring a famine on you.

Fast runners will find no place to hide; ¹  strong men will have no strength left; ²  warriors will not be able to save their lives.

“The Lord who rules over all asserts, ‘I am about to save my people from the lands of the east and the west.

She will give birth to a son and you will name him ¹  Jesus, ²  because he will save his people from their sins.”

For whoever wants to save his life ¹  will lose it, ²  but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

and saying, “You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! ¹  If you are God’s Son, come down ²  from the cross!”

“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down ¹  now from the cross, we will believe in him!

Then ¹  he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent.

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ¹  – were mocking him among themselves: ²  “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!
