When the Israelites were ¹  in the wilderness they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day. ² 

This is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, ¹  besides the continual burnt offering and its drink offering.

Some of the Kohathites, their relatives, were in charge of preparing the bread that is displayed each Sabbath.

You made known to them your holy Sabbath; you issued commandments, statutes, and law to them through ¹  Moses your servant.

How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Then ¹  they went to Capernaum. ²  When the Sabbath came, ³  Jesus ⁴  went into the synagogue ⁵  and began to teach.

So ¹  the Pharisees ²  said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?”

They watched ¹  Jesus ²  closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, ³  so that they could accuse him.

Now ¹  when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath), ² 

So ¹  he went down to Capernaum, ²  a town ³  in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he began to teach the people. ⁴ 

But some of the Pharisees ¹  said, “Why are you ²  doing what is against the law ³  on the Sabbath?”

On ¹  another Sabbath, Jesus ²  entered the synagogue ³  and was teaching. Now ⁴  a man was there whose right hand was withered. ⁵ 

Then ¹  they returned and prepared aromatic spices ²  and perfumes. ³  On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. ⁴ 

Immediately the man was healed, ¹  and he picked up his mat ²  and started walking. (Now that day was a Sabbath.) ³ 

(Now the day on which Jesus made the mud ¹  and caused him to see ²  was a Sabbath.) ³ 

On the next Sabbath almost the whole city assembled together to hear the word of the Lord. ¹ 

When the evening shadows ¹  began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I ordered ²  the doors to be closed. I further directed that they were not to be opened until after the Sabbath. I positioned ³  some of my young men at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.

Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the area. ¹ 

It is to be a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you must humble yourselves. ¹  It is a perpetual statute. ² 

and he must wave the sheaf before the Lord to be accepted for your benefit ¹  – on the day after the Sabbath the priest is to wave it. ²
