A poor person ¹  who oppresses the weak is like ²  a driving rain without food. ³ 

If a king judges the poor in truth, ¹  his throne ²  will be established forever.

Open your mouth, judge in righteousness, ¹  and plead the cause ²  of the poor and needy.

She extends ¹  her hand ²  to the poor, and reaches out her hand to the needy.

It is trampled underfoot by the feet of the oppressed, by the soles of the poor.”

So ¹  the Lord has this to say about Josiah’s son, King Jehoiakim of Judah: People will not mourn for him, saying, “This makes me sad, my brother! This makes me sad, my sister!” They will not mourn for him, saying, “Poor, poor lord! Poor, poor majesty!” ² 

But he ¹  left behind some of the poor ²  and gave them fields and vineyards.

“Blessed ¹  are the poor in spirit, ²  for the kingdom of heaven belongs ³  to them.

It ¹  could have been sold at a high price and the money ²  given to the poor!”

For you will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me! ¹ 

But at his gate lay ¹  a poor man named Lazarus ²  whose body was covered with sores, ³ 

He also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. ¹ 

For you will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me!” ¹ 

There will never cease to be some poor people in the land; therefore, I am commanding you to make sure you open ¹  your hand to your fellow Israelites ²  who are needy and poor in your land.

If the person is poor you may not use what he gives you as security for a covering. ¹

So he saves ¹  from the sword that comes from their mouth, ²  even ³  the poor from the hand of the powerful.

For he has oppressed the poor and abandoned them; ¹  he has seized a house which he did not build. ² 

The fatherless child is snatched ¹  from the breast, ²  the infant of the poor is taken as a pledge. ³ 

for I rescued the poor who cried out for help, and the orphan who ¹  had no one to assist him;
