They grope about in darkness ¹  without light; he makes them stagger ²  like drunkards.

The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished. ¹ 

He is driven ¹  from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

Can his armies be numbered? ¹  On whom does his light ²  not rise?

But when I hoped for good, trouble came; when I expected light, then darkness came.

Then from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm raised in violence ¹  is broken. ² 

“In what direction ¹  does light reside, and darkness, where is its place,

Its snorting throws out flashes of light; its eyes are like the red glow ¹  of dawn.

His lightning bolts light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

The godly bask in the light; the morally upright experience joy. ¹ 

Your instructions are a doorway through which light shines. ¹  They give ²  insight to the untrained. ³ 

The light ¹  of the righteous shines brightly, ²  but the lamp ³  of the wicked goes out. ⁴ 

I realized that wisdom is preferable to folly, ¹  just as light is preferable to darkness:

Light ¹  is sweet, ²  and it is pleasant for a person ³  to see the sun. ⁴ 

O descendants ¹  of Jacob, come, let us walk in the Lord’s guiding light. ² 

“Arise! Shine! For your light arrives! The splendor ¹  of the Lord shines on you!

He drove me into captivity ¹  and made me walk ²  in darkness and not light.

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

a light, ¹  for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory ²  to your people Israel.”
