Even my close friend ¹  whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. ² 

Many people entreat the favor ¹  of a generous person, ²  and everyone is the friend ³  of the person who gives gifts. ⁴ 

The one who loves a pure heart ¹  and whose speech is gracious ²  – the king will be his friend. ³

Do not rely on a friend; do not trust a companion! Don’t even share secrets with the one who lies in your arms! ¹ 

In that day,’ says the Lord who rules over all, ‘everyone will invite his friend to fellowship under his vine and under his fig tree.’” ¹
