Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

The one who eats ¹  my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me, and I in him. ² 

What then shall we say that Abraham, our ancestor according to the flesh, ¹  has discovered regarding this matter? ² 

For the outlook ¹  of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace,

Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires. ¹ 

But I say, live ¹  by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. ² 

by the fresh and living way that he inaugurated for us ¹  through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, ² 

Yet these men, ¹  as a result of their dreams, ²  defile the flesh, reject authority, ³  and insult ⁴  the glorious ones. ⁵ 

And Jesus answered him, ¹  “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood ²  did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven!

and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? ¹ 

Look at my hands and my feet; it’s me! ¹  Touch me and see; a ghost ²  does not have flesh and bones like you see I have.”

Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus ¹  began to argue with one another, ²  “How can this man ³  give us his flesh to eat?”

The one who eats ¹  my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. ² 

For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something that is outward in the flesh,

For when we were in the flesh, ¹  the sinful desires, ²  aroused by the law, were active in the members of our body ³  to bear fruit for death.

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it. ¹ 

so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so.

(for if you live according to the flesh, you will ¹  die), ²  but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live.

This means ¹  it is not the children of the flesh ²  who are the children of God; rather, the children of promise are counted as descendants.
