The one who trusts in his own heart ¹  is a fool, but the one who walks in wisdom ²  will escape. ³ 

“‘But I will spare some of you. Some will escape the sword when you are scattered in foreign lands. ¹ 

Then he will enter the beautiful land. ¹  Many ²  will fall, but these will escape: ³  Edom, Moab, and the Ammonite leadership.

Now the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners ¹  so that none of them would escape by swimming away. ² 

Anyone who accidentally kills someone can escape there; ¹  these cities will be a place of asylum from the avenger of blood.

He will not escape the darkness; ¹  a flame will wither his shoots and he will depart by the breath of God’s mouth. ²

The leaders will not be able to run away and hide. ¹  The shepherds of the flocks will not be able to escape.

I will certainly save you. You will not fall victim to violence. ¹  You will escape with your life ²  because you trust in me. I, the Lord, affirm it!”’” ³ 

But Ishmael son of Nethaniah managed to escape from Johanan along with eight of his men, and he went on over to Ammon.

But even the swiftest cannot get away. Even the strongest cannot escape. ¹  There in the north by the Euphrates River they stumble and fall in defeat. ² 

Their survivors will escape to the mountains and become like doves of the valleys; all of them will moan – each one for his iniquity.

He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Take note ¹  – he gave his promise ²  and did all these things – he will not escape!

You should not have stood at the fork in the road ¹  to slaughter ²  those trying to escape. ³  You should not have captured their refugees when they suffered adversity. ⁴ 

So now we consider the arrogant to be happy; indeed, those who practice evil are successful. ¹  In fact, those who challenge ²  God escape!’”

But stay alert at all times, ¹  praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that must ²  happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

And do you think, ¹  whoever you are, when you judge ²  those who practice such things and yet do them yourself, ³  that you will escape God’s judgment?
