I have no ease, ¹  I have no quietness; I cannot rest; ²  turmoil has come upon me.” ³ 

If someone wishes ¹  to contend ²  with him, he cannot answer ³  him one time in a thousand.

He has blocked ¹  my way so I cannot pass, and has set darkness ²  over my paths.

why it is so dark you cannot see, ¹  and why a flood ²  of water covers you.

Mankind does not know its place; ¹  it cannot be found in the land of the living.

They lock tightly together, one to the next; ¹  they cling together and cannot be separated.

Under three things the earth trembles, ¹  and under four things it cannot bear up:

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

Whoever does not carry his own cross ¹  and follow ²  me cannot be my disciple.
