His disciples answered him, “Where can someone get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”

Now ¹  they had forgotten to take bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat.

The devil said to him, “If ¹  you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” ² 

For John the Baptist has come ¹  eating no bread and drinking no wine, ²  and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ ³ 

Then the day for the feast ¹  of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. ² 

Then they told what had happened on the road, ¹  and how they recognized him ²  when he broke the bread.

For the bread of God is the one who ¹  comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.

They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, ¹  to the breaking of bread and to prayer. ² 

A person should examine himself first, ¹  and in this way ²  let him eat the bread and drink of the cup.

But he answered, ¹  “It is written, ‘Man ²  does not live ³  by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” ⁴ 

The disciples said to him, “Where can we get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy so great a crowd?”

When Jesus learned of this, ¹  he said, “You who have such little faith! ²  Why are you arguing ³  among yourselves about having no bread?

How could you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”

Then they understood that he had not told them to be on guard against the yeast in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

While ¹  they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat, this is my body.”

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff ¹  – no bread, no bag, ²  no money in their belts –

While they were eating, he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it. This is my body.”

He ¹  said to them, “Take nothing for your ²  journey – no staff, ³  no bag, ⁴  no bread, no money, and do not take an extra tunic. ⁵ 

When ¹  he had taken his place at the table ²  with them, he took the bread, blessed and broke it, ³  and gave it to them.
