Which of these three do you think became a neighbor ¹  to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”

If the thief is not caught, ¹  then the owner of the house will be brought before the judges ²  to see ³  whether he has laid ⁴  his hand on his neighbor’s goods.

If you do take ¹  the garment of your neighbor in pledge, you must return it to him by the time the sun goes down, ² 

When you enter the vineyard of your neighbor you may eat as many grapes as you please, ¹  but you must not take away any in a container. ²

Don’t set foot too frequently ¹  in your neighbor’s house, lest he become weary ²  of you and hate you.

Everyone must be on his guard around his friends. He must not even trust any of his relatives. ¹  For every one of them will find some way to cheat him. ²  And all of his friends will tell lies about him.

So it is with ¹  the one who has sex with ²  his neighbor’s wife; no one ³  who touches ⁴  her will escape ⁵  punishment. ⁶ 

“I will provoke civil strife in Egypt, ¹  brothers will fight with each other, as will neighbors, cities, and kingdoms. ² 

(though the father did not do any of them). ¹  He eats pagan sacrifices on the mountains, ²  defiles his neighbor’s wife,

He does not eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains, does not pray to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor’s wife,

‘Cursed is the one who kills ¹  his neighbor in private.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

and ¹  he contends with God on behalf of man as a man ²  pleads ³  for his friend.

You made us ¹  an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us. ² 

You have made our neighbors dislike us, ¹  and our enemies insult us.

A poor person is disliked ¹  even by his neighbors, but those who love the rich are many.

The one who lacks wisdom ¹  strikes hands in pledge, ²  and puts up financial security ³  for his neighbor. ⁴ 

Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow, ¹  so is the one who testifies against ²  his neighbor as a false witness. ³ 

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ ¹  and ‘hate your enemy.’

The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ¹
