I am silent and cannot open my mouth because of what you have done. ¹ 

I will declare a wise saying; ¹  I will share my profound thoughts. ² 

O God, listen to my prayer! Pay attention to what I say! ¹ 

which my lips uttered and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.

I will sing a song that imparts wisdom; I will make insightful observations about the past. ¹ 

O Lord, please accept the freewill offerings of my praise! ¹  Teach me your regulations!

So now, children, ¹  listen to me; do not turn aside from the words I speak. ² 

So now, sons, ¹  listen to me, and pay attention to the words I speak. ² 

All the words of my mouth are righteous; ¹  there is nothing in them twisted ²  or crooked.

The teaching ¹  of the righteous is a fountain of life, ²  but the speech ³  of the wicked conceals ⁴  violence. ⁵ 

The speech ¹  of the righteous bears the fruit of wisdom, ²  but the one who speaks perversion ³  will be destroyed. ⁴ 

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life. ¹ 

From the fruit of a person’s mouth ¹  his stomach is satisfied, ²  with the product of his lips is he satisfied.

The mouth ¹  of an adulteress is like ²  a deep pit; ³  the one against whom the Lord is angry ⁴  will fall into it. ⁵ 

Obey the king’s command, ¹  because you took ²  an oath before God ³  to be loyal to him. ⁴ 

The words of a wise person ¹  win him ²  favor, ³  but the words ⁴  of a fool are self-destructive. ⁵ 

So I opened my mouth and he fed me the scroll.

You and my brother Benjamin can certainly see with your own eyes that I really am the one who speaks to you. ¹ 

But Moses said, “Why ¹  are you now transgressing the commandment ²  of the Lord? It will not succeed!
