From the Israelites: from the descendants of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malkijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malkijah, and Benaiah.

From the descendants of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

From the descendants of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.

The Levites were as follows: Jeshua ¹  son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel.

Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, one of the descendants of Zerah son of Judah, was an adviser to the king ¹  in every matter pertaining to the people.

You are the most handsome of all men! ¹  You speak in an impressive and fitting manner! ²  For this reason ³  God grants you continual blessings. ⁴ 

(just as many were horrified by the sight of you) ¹  he was so disfigured ²  he no longer looked like a man; ³

The king of Jericho received this report: “Note well! ¹  Israelite men have come here tonight ²  to spy on the land.”

Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one per tribe.

But his master said to him, “We should not stop at a foreign city where non-Israelites live. ¹  We will travel on to Gibeah.”

Now several non-Israelite peoples were left in the land after the conquest of Joshua, including the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. ¹
