He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord as his ancestors had done.

The first came out reddish ¹  all over, ²  like a hairy ³  garment, so they named him Esau. ⁴ 

Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for fresh game, ¹  but Rebekah loved ²  Jacob.

Now Jacob cooked some stew, ¹  and when Esau came in from the open fields, he was famished.

“Look,” said Esau, “I’m about to die! What use is the birthright to me?” ¹ 

He did not recognize him because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau’s hands. So Isaac blessed Jacob. ¹ 

His father Isaac asked, ¹  “Who are you?” “I am your firstborn son,” ²  he replied, “Esau!”

Then Esau realized ¹  that the Canaanite women ²  were displeasing to ³  his father Isaac.

Jacob sent messengers on ahead ¹  to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the region ²  of Edom.

But Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, hugged his neck, and kissed him. Then they both wept.

But Esau said, “I have plenty, my brother. Keep what belongs to you.”

On the third day Joseph said to them, “Do as I say ¹  and you will live, ²  for I fear God. ³ 

And Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them.

and the Israelites went away and did exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. ¹ 

Now the Israelites had done ¹  as Moses told them – they had requested from the Egyptians ²  silver and gold items and clothing.
