When Moses told ¹  these things to all the Israelites, the people mourned ²  greatly.

When he had finished ¹  speaking ²  all these words, the ground that was under them split open,

And God came to Balaam and said, “Who are these men with you?”

then the community must judge between the slayer and the avenger of blood according to these decisions.

These words I am commanding you today must be kept in mind,

If you think, “These nations are more numerous than I – how can I dispossess them?”

then he ¹  will drive out all these nations ahead of you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.

Furthermore, remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and so be careful to observe these statutes.

All these blessings will come to you in abundance ¹  if you obey the Lord your God:

It is not with you alone that I am making this covenant by oath,

Then Moses went ¹  and spoke these words ²  to all Israel.

When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel

Now Joshua set up in Gilgal the ¹  twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.

Joshua campaigned against ¹  these kings for quite some time. ² 

This was the land assigned to the tribe of Asher ¹  by its clans, including these cities and their towns.

This was the land assigned to the tribe of Dan ¹  by its clans, including these cities and their towns.

This is why ¹  the Lord permitted these nations to remain and did not conquer them immediately; ²  he did not hand them over to Joshua.

The Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and he became very angry.

Saul and the Israelite army ¹  assembled and camped in the valley of Elah, where they arranged their battle lines to fight against ²  the Philistines.

When Saul and all the Israelites ¹  heard these words of the Philistine, they were upset and very afraid.
