I mourned for them as I would for a friend or my brother. ¹  I bowed down ²  in sorrow as if I were mourning for my mother. ³ 

You plot against your brother; ¹  you slander your own brother. ²

My child, guard the commands of your father and do not forsake the instruction of your mother.

A wise child ¹  brings joy to his father, but a foolish person ²  despises ³  his mother.

The one who robs ¹  his father ²  and chases away his mother is a son ³  who brings shame and disgrace.

The one who curses ¹  his father and his mother, his lamp ²  will be extinguished in the blackest ³  darkness.

A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

There is a generation ¹  who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers. ² 

The words of King Lemuel, ¹  an oracle ²  that his mother taught him:

“‘Observe – everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”
