(9:1) The people walking in darkness see a bright light; ¹  light shines on those who live in a land of deep darkness. ² 

Indeed the stars in the sky and their constellations no longer give out their light; ¹  the sun is darkened as soon as it rises, and the moon does not shine. ² 

“Why does God ²  give ³  light to one who is in misery, ⁴  and life to those ⁵  whose soul is bitter,

He reveals the deep things of darkness, and brings deep shadows ¹  into the light.

These men ¹  change ²  night into day; they say, ³  ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’ ⁴ 

“Yes, ¹  the lamp ²  of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire ³  does not shine.

Whatever you decide ¹  on a matter, it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways.

Can his armies be numbered? ¹  On whom does his light ²  not rise?

when ¹  he caused ²  his lamp ³  to shine upon my head, and by his light I walked ⁴  through darkness; ⁵ 

If I smiled at them, they hardly believed it; ¹  and they did not cause the light of my face to darken. ² 

if I looked at the sun ¹  when it was shining, and the moon advancing as a precious thing,

He redeemed my life ¹  from going down to the place of corruption, and my life sees the light!’

to turn back his life from the place of corruption, that he may be enlightened with the light of life.

See how he scattered ¹  his lightning ²  about him; he has covered the depths ³  of the sea.

With his hands ¹  he covers ²  the lightning, and directs it against its target.

Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners ¹  of the earth.

He loads the clouds with moisture; ¹  he scatters his lightning through the clouds.

Do you know how God commands them, ¹  how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud? ² 

Its snorting throws out flashes of light; its eyes are like the red glow ¹  of dawn.

He led them with a cloud by day, and with the light of a fire all night long.
