In him ¹  the whole building, ²  being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,

He produced manuals on botany, describing every kind of plant, ¹  from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on walls. He also produced manuals on biology, describing ²  animals, birds, insects, and fish.

Indeed, this is the joy of his way, ¹  and out of the earth ²  others spring up. ³ 

I constructed pools of water for myself, to irrigate my grove ¹  of flourishing trees.

You plant them like trees and they put down their roots. ¹  They grow prosperous and are very fruitful. ²  They always talk about you, but they really care nothing about you. ³ 

The water made it grow; underground springs made it grow tall. Rivers flowed all around the place it was planted, while smaller channels watered all the trees of the field. ¹ 

“‘They must not shave their heads ¹  nor let their hair grow long; ²  they must only trim their heads.

Why do you worry about clothing? Think about how the flowers ¹  of the field grow; they do not work ²  or spin.

He goes to sleep and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

But practicing the truth in love, ¹  we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head.

He cuts down cedars and acquires a cypress ¹  or an oak. He gets ²  trees from the forest; he plants a cedar ³  and the rain makes it grow.

Exercise appropriate caution so that there is no negligence in this matter. Why should danger increase to the point that kings sustain damage?”

“Why do the wicked go on living, ¹  grow old, ²  even increase in power?

¹ This will be your confirmation that I have spoken the truth: ²  This year you will eat what grows wild, ³  and next year ⁴  what grows on its own from that. But in the third year you will plant seed and harvest crops; you will plant vines and consume their produce. ⁵ 

Let both grow together until the harvest. At ¹  harvest time I will tell the reapers, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned, but then ²  gather ³  the wheat into my barn.”’”

You must not gather in the aftergrowth of your harvest and you must not pick the grapes of your unpruned ¹  vines; the land must have a year of complete rest.

“‘All the days of the vow ¹  of his separation no razor may be used on his head ²  until the time ³  is fulfilled for which he separated himself to the Lord. He will be holy, ⁴  and he must let ⁵  the locks of hair on his head grow long.

¹ “This will be your reminder that I have spoken the truth: ²  This year you will eat what grows wild, ³  and next year ⁴  what grows on its own. But the year after that ⁵  you will plant seed and harvest crops; you will plant vines and consume their produce. ⁶ 

My wounds ¹  are infected and starting to smell, ²  because of my foolish sins. ³
