All this took ¹  about four hundred fifty years. After this ²  he gave them judges until the time of ³  Samuel the prophet.

Watch out, ¹  then, that what is spoken about by ²  the prophets does not happen to you:

The ¹  words of the prophets agree ²  with this, as it is written,

While we remained there for a number of days, ¹  a prophet named Agabus ²  came down from Judea.

Do you believe the prophets, ¹  King Agrippa? ²  I know that you believe.”

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?

Two or three prophets should speak and the others should evaluate what is said.

This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:

“In Bethlehem of Judea,” they said, “for it is written this way by the prophet:

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them. ¹ 

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth ¹  in Galilee.”

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

But if we say, ‘From people – ’” (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

And you, child, ¹  will be called the prophet ²  of the Most High. ³  For you will go before ⁴  the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁵ 

And he added, ¹  “I tell you the truth, ²  no prophet is acceptable ³  in his hometown.

while others were saying that Elijah ¹  had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had risen. ² 

Woe to you! You build ¹  the tombs of the prophets whom your ancestors ²  killed.

so that this generation may be held accountable ¹  for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning ²  of the world, ³
