Now a dispute came about between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew ¹  concerning ceremonial washing. ² 

You have sent to John, ¹  and he has testified to the truth.

Peter looked directly ¹  at him (as did John) and said, “Look at us!”

Barnabas wanted to bring John called Mark along with them too,

So Paul ¹  said, “Into what then were you baptized?” “Into John’s baptism,” they replied. ² 

Now ¹  John’s ²  disciples and the Pharisees ³  were fasting. ⁴  So ⁵  they came to Jesus ⁶  and said, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?”

In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness ¹  of Judea proclaiming,

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River. ¹ 

Now when John ¹  heard in prison about the deeds Christ ²  had done, he sent his disciples to ask a question: ³ 

Jesus answered them, ¹  “Go tell John what you hear and see: ² 

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

In the wilderness ¹  John the baptizer ²  began preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ³ 

Now ¹  as soon as they left the synagogue, ²  they entered Simon and Andrew’s house, with James and John.

For John had repeatedly told ¹  Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” ² 

But if we say, ‘From people – ’” (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

He took Peter, James, ¹  and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

He ¹  asked for a writing tablet ²  and wrote, ³  “His name is John.” And they were all amazed. ⁴ 

during the high priesthood ¹  of Annas and Caiaphas, the word ²  of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³
